2019 Sydney Roundtable - March 13

Description

Annual general meetings in recent years have served to highlight that shareholders are no longer willing to be passive investors and many are now much more actively involved in shaping how business thinks about environmental, sustainability and governance issues. Community expectations and major reputation challenges for business are dramatically changing how investors look at and engage with our major companies. Blackrock CEO Larry Fink's annual letter in 2019 is a leading example of the ongoing change.

But how profound is the impact of ESG on investment decisions? Any public company has myriad stakeholders; isn't the real issue the relevance and impact of ESG on value creation? How do investors assess the materiality of a company's ESG efforts? Is it right that companies move beyond the traditional focus on generating profits for shareholders? And what is the role of the chief communications officer in all this?

Please join us for a Page Roundtable-organized with the support of Page member Matthew Gibbs-to discuss these issues with three of Australia's leading thinkers on investor interests.

SPEAKERS:
• Judith Fox, the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Shareholders Association
• Andrew Gray, Senior Manager, Investments Governance, Australian Super
• Martin Lawrence, Director at Ownership Matters.
